It’s mid-summer, my favourite time of the year. It’s when I really get to enjoy my vegetable garden along with hot hot hot weather, which I adore. Rhubarb, green peppers, raspberries and herbs are ripe and plentiful in my garden right now.
I added the peppers to tomato pasta sauces and also into hummus.
Hummus recipe here.
I’d be closer to enjoying the peas and strawberries if it weren’t for the pests, especially slugs. With all the rain in June and July, it’s slugs galore out there. The nontoxic pest deterrent I make worked well…. when the rain wasn’t washing it off. Click here for the recipe.Squirrels raided me of some lettuce and all my cucumber, kale and carrots!
I took the first batch of rhubarb and made muffins, subbing the berries for the rhubarb in my cornmeal muffins. They were scrumptious! Recipe here.
Tomatoes and zucchini are just about ready….. I’m planning to make more salsa!
